Galvanize is a popular coding bootcamp that offers online and on-campus software engineering programs. The strength of a Galvanize coding bootcamp lies in the quality of its curriculum as well as on the career services offered, which include extensive help during the job search process.

We consider Galvanize one of the best coding bootcamps on the market, especially since its acquisition in 2018 of another highly esteemed bootcamp, Hack Reactor. In this Galvanize review, we discuss key aspects you need to know to make an informed decision, including cost, job placement rates, and former student reviews.

Galvanize is a software engineering bootcamp. It offers beginner and intermediate coding bootcamps, as well as a prep course. In addition, the school has programs designed for military personnel and provides enterprise training solutions.

Through rigorous training in JavaScript, Python, and other in-demand programming languages, students gain the skills they need to take on entry-level tech jobs at leading companies around the world.

What Do Students Say About Galvanize Tech Bootcamps?

Former students tend to agree that a Galvanize coding bootcamp is a good investment of time and money. After nearly 30 reviews on this platform, Galvanize holds a rating of 90 percent, achieving perfect scores in the “instructors” and “job assistance” categories.

A Galvanize review from a remote student based in New Jersey says that the school was “everything that I expected it to be and more.” They go on to highlight the passion and dedication of the instructors and how prepared they felt for their new careers after graduation.

Another Galvanize reviewer, Louis, who enrolled in a software engineering bootcamp, focused on the fast tempo and challenging nature of the course. “Lucky for us, the instructors and assistant instructors are dedicated to helping you understand the material and complete your projects,” he says, adding that both the instructors and the course materials were top-notch.

Galvanize Job Placement

At least 85 percent of Galvanize graduates find a job within six months of completing their program, according to the school’s 2021 student outcomes report. This high percentage can be attributed to the solid career services provided by Galvanize coding bootcamps. Students receive career support during and after their time at Galvanize.

Career support includes discussions on personal branding, networking, and the job search. Students also take part in mock interviews to give them a realistic view of what to expect. Also, Galvanize hosts networking events to allow students to connect with other experts and meet potential employers. Most students find employment through these events.

How Much Does Galvanize Cost?

All Galvanize coding bootcamps have the same tuition: $19,480. This is considerably higher than the average cost of a coding bootcamp, which stands at $12,953. Although this fact makes Galvanize tuition look expensive, the reality is that these programs are worth this price tag considering the quality of instruction and the extensive career services.

Additionally, students have several ways to pay for coding bootcamp at their disposal, including income share agreements.

How to Pay for a Galvanize Bootcamp

Galvanize has several financing options available to students. They include scholarships, loans, and income share agreements. Read below to learn more about how to pay for your coding bootcamp.

Scholarships

This coding bootcamp has several coding bootcamp scholarships for eligible students. One is the We Stand Together Scholarship, which offers financial aid to groups underrepresented in the tech community. This scholarship covers the full tuition cost. You can also apply for the Galvanize Scholarship, another full-tuition scholarship designed for people who belong to a minority group.

ISAs

Income share agreements are quite common in coding bootcamps today. Students can choose to defer tuition and pay in installments when they secure a job earning at least $40,000 per year. Galvanize has an income share agreement that it touts as one of the best in the industry.

When students graduate, they pay a part of their salary to the bootcamp per month. If you lose your job, you will not be required to pay until you get another job earning above that amount.

Loan Financing

Galvanize partners with Ascent and Climb Credit to offer low-interest loans to students. The loans can be used to cover tuition or living expenses. The repayment plans may differ, but each allows you enough time after the program before repaying.

Split Payments

Students can choose to pay half of the Galvanize tuition on the first day of class and the remainder at the midpoint.

Veteran Benefits

The intermediate bootcamp and Operation Level Up can both be financed through Veteran Employment Through Technology Education Courses (VET TEC). This type of commitment to the training of ex-military is what makes Galvanize one of the best coding bootcamps for veterans.

Galvanize Locations

Galvanize has several campuses located in many states in the United States. The courses are the same across all campuses.

  • Galvanize Austin
  • Galvanize Boulder
  • Galvanize Denver
  • Galvanize Los Angeles
  • Galvanize New York City
  • Galvanize Phoenix
  • Galvanize San Francisco
  • Galvanize San Jose
  • Galvanize Seattle
  • Galvanize Online

The coding bootcamp reports that all locations have high job placement rates. Graduates also find jobs with a starting salary of $87,500 across all campuses, according to the Galvanize official website.

Galvanize Courses

Galvanize offers software engineering training in either full-time or part-time formats. This school has a prep course to help inexperienced students get ready for a coding bootcamp. There is also a program designed for veterans. Galvanize used to have data science and data analytics programs that were very popular. Unfortunately, these have been discontinued.

Full-Time Beginner Bootcamp: JavaScript & Python

With this program, you can acquire the skills needed to become a full stack developer in just 19 weeks. The curriculum of this Galvanize bootcamp is accessible to people with no previous coding experience and includes topics like HTML, CSS, relational databases, Bash, PowerShell, JavaScript, and React. The last week is dedicated to career services.

Part-Time Beginner Bootcamp: JavaScript & TypeScript

This beginner software engineering bootcamp is designed for busy people, with only three hours of class per day. In 38 weeks, you’ll build the foundation required to become a software engineer. The focus areas are programming and web development fundamentals and full stack development. The last few weeks revolve around career services and the capstone project.

Full-Time Intermediate Bootcamp

Designed for more advanced learners than the options above, this Galvanize tech bootcamp lasts 12 weeks and covers many of the topics included in the beginner bootcamps. However, you’ll also learn about RESTful APIs as well as AI-powered tools like GitHub Copilot. As with the beginner bootcamps, career services take center stage in this program. Before starting, you’ll have to spend up to 120 hours on the precourse curriculum.

Operation Level Up

To join this Galvanize bootcamp, you must be in the last six months of military duty. The program lasts 17 weeks and covers many of the same tools and technologies as the other Galvanize bootcamps, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

Galvanize Prep Courses

Galvanize has one free prep course created specifically for students with little or no coding experience with their sights set on the intermediate bootcamp. You’ll learn HTML and associated languages like CSS and JavaScript.

What Is the Galvanize Schedule?

The Galvanize schedule is both full-time and part-time, and you can choose which one you prefer. Students have a lot of flexibility in class schedules at Galvanize. Read below to learn more about these options.

Full-Time

Galvanize has a full-time schedule for most of its programs. The program takes around 12 weeks to complete and students need to devote 40 hours per week to the class. Students are expected to work from 9am to 8pm. On Saturdays, the class meets from 9am to 5:30pm.

The classes begin with lectures and then a self-directed lab. Students take lunch and attend another round of lab and lecture. There is also a Q&A session to ensure that all students are on the same page. The classes aren’t recorded, so it is necessary to attend.

Part-Time

Galvanize also has part-time programs that take place on weeknights and Saturdays. It resumes from 6pm to 9pm on weekdays and 9am to 2pm on Saturday. This way, students have time to attend to other matters while learning.

The pace is also slow enough to allow students to fully absorb the material. Students can spend time on their own learning, and they have access to technical staff on video conferencing to help them with any issues they may have.

Self-Paced

Self-paced programs give students the option to study at their own pace. This program schedule is ideal for busy working professionals who want to learn a new skill. Galvanize has a self-paced program for the prep course alone. Other immersive programs cannot be attended on a self-paced schedule.

How to Get Accepted Into Galvanize

Galvanize is not easy to get into. The bootcamp prep course can give you some training to stand out during the interview. Aside from the bootcamp prep, you can also study some basic concepts on your own. This will increase your chances of being selected.

Galvanize Acceptance Rate

Galvanize has an acceptance rate of around 20 percent, according to its official website.

Application Process

The application process for Galvanize is quite simple. It involves a written application on the website, a coding challenge, and an admissions assessment.

  1. Submit an application on the bootcamp website.
  2. The admissions team will contact you and give you a coding challenge to complete.
  3. When you are done, you will also take a technical admission assessment before being accepted. This assessment covers the functions of JavaScript to handle small problems if you are applying for the software engineering program. You can take the assessment up to three times. The admissions team will inform you of the next steps.
  4. If you have been accepted, you will begin the prep work before starting the program.

Interview Questions

Galvanize does not have a typical bootcamp interview session. It uses a different method to determine if a student is fit for the program called a technical admission assessment. Every proctored technical admission assessment is 75 minutes long, and you’ll work on the problems by yourself.

Is Galvanize Worth It?

Yes, Galvanize is worth it if you want to learn software engineering and if you are looking for extensive support during and after your program in the form of career services. As Galvanize reviews often point out, the school has strong and up-to-date curricula delivered by experienced and passionate instructors. Additionally, students benefit from a career services package that is very comprehensive, even by industry standards.

In summary, we consider this to be an excellent school, so much so that we have included it on our list of the best online bootcamps and the best Node.js bootcamps. If you are looking for a safe way into the tech industry, this bootcamp may be the answer.
